Make your veggies last longer and your food more delicious!
Join us for our second Kitchen Alchemy workshop, at the Moving Feast Kitchen at the Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne. We’re going to get into the delicious world of pickles, exploring ways to use, preserve and enjoy unexpected abundance or those scrappy leftover parts of vegetables that sometimes get forgotten in the back of the fridge.
From simple, fridge-ready pickles to preserving seasonal vegetables, pickling is a fantastic tool to have in your zero-waste cooking skill set.
In this 45-minute, hands-on workshop, you’ll cook along, making your own jar of quick pickles to take home and learning tips and tricks to help you continue your pickling adventures. We'll take you through the whole process, and show you how to adapt basic pickle recipes to use what you have. You’ll take home the pickles you make, as well as the recipe.
We will provide a selection of seasonable vegetables for you to choose from, or you can bring any vegetables that you need to use up. Even if it’s only a half or part of a vegetable, bring it along – if we can't pickle it, we'll discuss other ways to use it up. You’ll never throw out a sad, forgotten half of a cucumber that’s gone bad ever again!
Run by MAKE Studios in collaboration with STREAT, this workshop is part of our waste-saving project, Crowd Sauce, supported by Sustainability Victoria. Your instructors will be MAKE's food system and low-waste cooking champion, Fiona Smith and STREAT's eco-chef, Chris Locke.
