Kitchen Alchemy workshops

A drawing of pickles

Make delicious food, save money and fight food waste!

MAKE runs Kitchen Alchemy workshops in the Purpose Precinct’s Moving Feast Kitchen at Queen Victoria Market as real-life behavioural interventions to address food waste in home kitchens.

These hands-on workshops develop home cooks’ capability to reduce their food waste and build their confidence to adopt new behaviours. The recipes we teach are designed to be adapted to what you have at hand in the kitchen. Participants choose their own ingredients and are guided through making choices using the base recipes.

Recipes include:

  • Quick pickles made to an adaptable recipe
  • Stock paste made from veggie scraps
  • Cordial made from fruit peels and off-cuts
  • Kombucha made from herbs, fruit skins and/or spent coffee grounds
  • Dip made from roast vegetables with pantry staples
  • Pesto made from herbs or leafy greens with pantry staples

Run by MAKE Studios in collaboration with STREAT, this workshop is part of our waste-saving project, Crowd Sauce, supported by Sustainability Victoria. Your instructors will be MAKE's food system and low-waste cooking champion, Fiona Smith and STREAT's eco-chef, Tobie Puttock.

Come away from these workshops with new skills, fresh ideas, and a jar of your own culinary creations!

Team workshops and events

MAKE’s low-waste cooking workshops are a fun and engaging way to bring teams together for a hands-on experience. We can embed a learning focus area, such as circular design, behaviour change, or systems change through the lens of food.

They're a perfect team-building experience for smaller teams (3-12 people), where we cook selected recipes and then share our creations together.

Get in touch if you'd like to book a workshop for your team.
